JOSHUA TREE CAMPING RESERVATIONS

Camping at the Jumbo Rocks Campground can require a bit of planning. Sites generally cost $30, and reservations open exactly six months in advance at 7 a.m. PST on Recreation.gov. And they tend to go fast—especially for weekends and holidays during the cooler months. Fall through spring is considered peak season in Joshua Tree, when temperatures are ideal for camping and demand is high. For a better chance at securing a site, try booking a mid-week stay or planning your visit during the shoulder seasons.

Jumbo Rocks Campground doesn’t offer hookups, and there’s no potable water, dump station, showers, or flushing toilets—so come prepared. For water and dumping, nearby Black Rock and Cottonwood campgrounds offer those services to both campers and non-campers. While all sites at Jumbo Rocks require reservations, cancellations do happen, and it’s occasionally possible to snag a last-minute spot. Still, availability is limited, so booking ahead is highly recommended.
