Fed by underground springs, Burney Falls flows year-round with remarkable consistency. MOSSBRAE FALLS
One of the most spectacular and breathtaking waterfalls in California, is Mossbrae Falls. But it’s a controversial waterfall and comes with many disclaimers. What makes this waterfall unique is the way its water gently cascades down a moss-covered cliff, creating a curtain-like effect that spans about 50 feet high and 175 feet wide.
DISCLAIMER
Unfortunately, the waterfall and the paths leading to the waterfall, all reside on private land. Thus, hiking to it, is forbidden. That being said, the City of Dunsmuir is aware of this falls’ popularity and history. So in partnership with the Union Pacific Railroad, they have put together a proposal to create a proper designated trail to the falls that would allow people to hike safely and ultimately not trespass on private land. Unfortunately there have been challenges in getting this proposal off the ground. So if you are interested in helping, we strongly recommend donating to the proposals fund!
If you do choose to hike to this falls, you do so at your own risk. We found parking and starting at the Hedge Creek Falls Trailhead, and wading through and across the river, allowed us to access the falls with the least amount of walking along the railroad tracks.
