We understand that if you are not staying inside the park, or just outside the park, sunrise at the Cholla Cactus Garden probably isn’t doable. That’s ok! Get there when you can get there. But if you CAN get there for sunrise, it truly is one of the most magical sunrises we’ve ever experienced.

The Cholla Cactus Garden in Joshua Tree National Park is a unique and visually striking area filled with dense clusters of the teddy bear cholla cactus. Known for its fuzzy appearance, the cactus can be deceivingly prickly, making it essential to stay on designated paths. A short, easy loop trail takes you through the garden, offering a chance to photograph the cacti against the backdrop of desert landscapes. During sunrise or sunset, the golden light highlights the spiny silhouettes, creating a magical scene. Be cautious, as the cactus’s spines detach easily, making it a spot best enjoyed from a distance.
